Villar: Concert in MOA not meant to match LP's rally
02/26/2010 | 12:01 AM

More Share7 A rock concert at the concert grounds of a Pasay City mall featured presidential aspirant Sen. Manny Villar Jr. (Nacionalista Party), but only as an audience.

Villar denied that the “Rockatropa" concert held at the SM Mall of Asia concert grounds was meant to compete with the rally of Liberal Party in Quezon City to celebrate the 24th anniversary of the historic EDSA People Power in 1986.

“Hindi naman . . . walang kinalaman sa EDSA ito. Matagal nang na-postpone ito, tinuloy lang namin (This has nothing to do with EDSA. This was something that got postponed before)," Villar told reporters in an interview.

The concert was initially scheduled October 26 last year but was canceled due to typhoon Ondoy, which devastated Metro Manila and killed hundreds of people

Unlike his rival Sen. Benigno “Noynoy" Aquino III, who took the stage in the Quezon City rally, Villar remained with the audience during the whole show.

“Alam mo pag-concert parang ayaw naman nila na parang pulitika kaya OK lang ako na manood (Concert is not a venue for politics, so I rather be a part of the audience)," he said.

Present at the concert were NP senatorial candidates Adel Tamano, Gilbert Remulla, Sen. Pilar Juliana Cayetano, and Martin Querubin, who represented his detained father Col. Ariel Querubin.

Also in attendance were Villar’s children Camille, who organized the concert; Paulo, and Mark.

Organizers pegged the crowd at 120,000 to 130,000 while the police placed it at 70,000 to 80,000.

The concert was hosted by radio jocks Nicoleyala and Cris Tsuper; singer Randy Santiago; actor John Estrada; and TV host Valerie Concepcion.

Congressman Bongbong Marcos dismisses rumors linking him to Sarah Geronimo
by Bernie Franco | February 26, 2010 8:56 AM
ABS-CBN.COM

Ilocos Norte Congressman Bongbong Marcos clarified that he has never met Sarah Geronimo in person, debunking rumors that his car was allegedly seen parked in front of the Pop Star Princess’s residence. “The truth of the matter is I have not met that young lady,” the senatorial candidate said during his press conference last February 24, (Wednesday) as an endorser of Ever Bilena’s Blackwater fragrances collections.

The congressman admitted though that his being linked to Sarah roused his curiosity to learn more about the singer-actress. “I would love to meet her. I understand she’s extremely talented. Many Filipinos are great admirers of her not only because of her talent, she’s a great actress, she’s a great comedienne I know, because I watched her movies. Nung napanood ko ang pelikula n’ya tinatanong ko, ‘Sino kaya ‘yang artistang ‘yan? Why are they putting our names together? who is this young lady?’”

He also narrated that he had asked his elder sister Imee Marcos about the actress when he spotted her billboard while they were driving along EDSA. Later on, Bongbong said he was able to immediately recognize Sarah whenever he was watching the television. “Once in a while I hear her on TV and once in a while I see parts of her movies sa cable channel. I think she is a great talent, I think she epitomizes all the good things about Filipino, the resourcefulness, the ingenuity, hard work, and ethics.” He also confessed that he has become an admirer of Sarah. “And I would very much want to meet her. She’s a lovely young lady and I think she’s good example to all Filipinos.”

Wowowee cast rocks Villar's Rockatropa gig
MANILA, Philippines - As it turned out, Sen. Manny Villar and the Nacionalista Party's “Wowowillie meets Rockatropa (Konsyerto para sa Bayan),” especially midway, was like a remote telecast of the daily ABS-CBN noontime show “Wowowee,” with most of its mainstays strutting in and camping out at the Mall of Asia (MOA) concert grounds in Pasay City Thursday night.

Aside from Pokwang, Mariel Rodriguez, and a motley group of other hosts, the heart of the show was there to up the tempo of the evening.

Willie Revillame was on top of the heap as he sang and danced, to the delight of his followers, from dusk until the early hours of Friday morning.

Kembot Girls gyrated and bumped each other’s hips to usher in their Wil’s conquest of them and of the night.

An outdoor “Bigatin” version made everyone all the more excited and interactive, all of them singing, swaying and stamping with Willie through his “Ikembot Mo,” “Taranan,” and other songs while he picked contestants from the huge crowd of around 100,000 people, if we were to believe rapper Andrew E..

Revillame had invited his audience to come and see his free show at MOA as early as mid-Thursday. “Pipintahan po natin ng orange ang show,” he said over "Wowowee."

Painting the show orange

Yes, the night was painted with orange and all its shades, with Revillame changing orange attires twice.

Bentong, “Wowowee's stout and stocky little comic was in tangerine, too, his act no different from his afternoon rah-rah boy role, throwing with his boss red and black “Wowowee” freebie shirts to the fans.

Singer Sarah Geronimo, although not a “Wowowee” regular but who guests on the show once in a while, was in a one-strapped orange top, which she consciously and briefly held so as not to show off her skin.

Director Edgar Mortiz, who was in striped, short-sleeved polo with red and yellow ribbon pinned on his shirt, was throwing his weight around, literally.

No, he wasn’t at the helm of this mammoth crowd. “Nanonood lang ako,” he quipped.

Was he consulted with the way the show would look? “No. Sila lang ang nakaisip n’yan.”

Poor kids from Baseco and San Juan

Impoverished kids from Baseco and San Juan squatters were dressed in orange tee and white pants holding orange-lit balls, parading and displaying a “We are the World”-like pastiche.

“Wowowee” co-host Valerie Concepcion was in black, but maybe her heart is ponkan.

Of course, without them saying a word, it was predominantly a Manny Villar color, in an almost Villar country, considering Pasay’s closeness to Las Piñas.

As we eavesdropped in Villar’s ambush interview, he said he was just there to watch the show, which was put together by his daughter, Camille.

And while Willie was singing his love songs, the presidential candidate breezed through quietly and just sat with the audience, smiling at the sights and sounds.

Earlier, it was free style among hosts Randy Santiago and John Estrada, and some guests like Andrew E. and Cristine Reyes, including the last part when radio sensations Christsuper and Nicole Eyala paved the way for a battle of bands among Sandwich, Parokya ni Edgar, Bamboo and Juan de la Cruz.

And they all smelled like oranges, too

Philippine Daily Inquirer

THE 2010 ELECTION IS ABOUT INTEGRITY and credibility against deception and manipulation, and I guess people would have a hard time deciding which candidate to vote for if they have to consider the candidates’ accomplishments, educational qualifications and platforms. Me, I would rather simply look into the attitude of the candidates and their teams.

Take Noynoy Aquino’s candidacy, for example. They say he is a so-so member of the legislative, so it is argued that he is not competent enough to be the next president. Right? Wrong. Cory Aquino, a mere housewife with no experience in public service to speak of, performed incredibly well, to the embarrassment of her bitterest critics. With his legislative experience, I guess Noynoy is as qualified as the rest of the presidential candidates. He shows humility too. He is the only one who has admitted from the outset that the presidency is a very difficult job. Of course, it is. Running the government is not a one-man job. It takes a team to accomplish the tasks ahead.

We should also be wary of the hidden agenda of the candidates. Gibo Teodoro is a good candidate. But I still want to know why he and his NPC party mates tried in the past to impeach a sitting chief justice.

Manny Villar is another good material. He was once dubbed the “Speaker ng Bayan” for forwarding to the Senate the impeachment complaint against Erap Estrada. With that singular feat I swear that I could vote for the man. But he never mentions this in his current campaign and I wonder why. Is it because he has corralled Erap’s sleek operators in his camp? Eulogio Rodriguez, the grand old man of politics in yesteryears, once said that politics is addition. Maybe Villar subscribes to this credo, hence his being indiscriminate in choosing his senatorial candidates. His celebrity endorsers are all big time: Dolphy (a great friend of Erap and Fernando Poe Jr.), Manny Pacquiao, Willie Revillame, Michael V, even Sarah Geronimo. Their endorsements may have cost lots of money.

Dolphy said he was not paid for his services. He should tell it to the Marines. (Villar said he has no intention of recouping the millions of pesos he has spent for his campaign, if and when he’ll be elected president. Another one for the Marines.) Seriously now, I hope celebrities endorsing candidates would realize that what they are doing is not “trabaho lang” but has implications on our nation’s future.

With the exception of Erap and the nuisance candidate whose name escapes me now, all the candidates are competent: Nicky Perlas the environmentalist; JC de los Reyes; Dick Gordon, a proven administrator; Eddie Villanueva the preacher.

Choose your man and choose well. God bless us all.

Other performers in the concert include Andrew E, Randy Santiago, "Kembot Girls" of Revillame's noontime show "Wowowee", and local bands like Parokya ni Edgar, Sandwich, Kamikazee, Bamboo and Juan de la Cruz Band.

Among those who have confirmed their attendance were Ogie Alcasid, Christian Bautista, Erik Santos, and Sponge Cola.

LP's standard-bearer, Senator Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III. will lead the commemoration. He will be joined by his running mate, Senator Mar Roxas, and their full senatorial ticket.

SOP, the long-running Sunday party show of GMA-7 undergoes a major revamp and gets a "reinforced" staff, plus a new title, starting the third Sunday of March.

Party Pilipinas is now going to be an "all-party and all-positive vibes" show, according to the Corporate Communications Department of GMA-7 and the show's new production manager, Ruth Mariñas.

Mariñas takes over the post of Ramel David, who in turn replaced Hazel Abonita.

Director Louie Ignacio will now have a co-director and creative manager, Paul Basinillo, a seasoned music video director who helmed some projects for Sarah Geronimo and other young singers.

Four musical directors will alternate every week, two of which will be Raul Mitra and Danny Tan.

Geleen Eugenio will hand over the choreography to her son Miggy, but she will become the chief adviser of the new choreographers coming from different school organizations, which will be given the chance to show off their dancing skills.

The four main hosts Regine Velasquez, Ogie Alcasid, Janno Gibbs, and Jaya are retained, along with the R&B pair of Jay-R and Kyla, plus La Diva.

New co-hosts and semi-regulars will join them in launching all-new segments, such as a revolving special number every week from one group of Telebabad stars and a high-powered number from different schools' dancing groups.

Bongbong denies rumored affair with Sarah Geronimo
by Reyma Buan-Deveza, abs-cbnNEWS.com | 02/24/2010 7:07 PM

MANILA, Philippines - A visibly irked Ilocos Norte Rep. and senatorial candidate Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Wednesday vehemently denied his alleged relationship with Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo.

In an interview during the launching of his product endorsement, Ever Bilena’s "Blackwater" cologne, the congressmen stressed that he has never personally met the popular singer.

"Hindi ko alam kung saan nanggaling ang istorya na yan. Siguro nadaan lang ako doon sa kalsada kung saan nandoon ang bahay niya at sinabi na agad na nandoon ako. Pero the truth of the matter is I have not met that young lady. I have never been in the same room with her," Marcos said.

Marcos admitted that he is impressed by Geronimo’s singing and acting skills, adding that he would love to meet her someday.

"I understand that she's extremely talented. Many Filipinos are great supporters of her because not only of her talent, but she's also a great actress and a great comedienne and I know because I watched the movie.

“Noong lumalabas na ang istorya na ‘yan, tinatanong ko kung sino kaya siya, why they are putting our names together? Sabi ko, ‘Who is this young lady?’

"One time, I was with Imee. Actually nandoon kami sa EDSA. Sabi niya 'yang billboard na yan, yan si Sarah Geronimo. So I said, ‘Let me learn more about her, why she is such a big star.’ And I did and I see her on TV. Once in a while, I see part of her movie showing sa some of the cable channels."

Marcos, 52, called on the public to stop the rumors romantically linking him to the 21-year-old actress-singer.

"Alam niyo kawawa naman 'yong bata. Let's not make stories na hindi naman [totoo]. You know, as I've said, I'd become an admirer of her pero huwag na nating [palakihin]," he added.

Note: Apologies for the blurred pic... taken using a camera... Anyway, the section of PDI's Election 2010 is a must read, it will guide us on the ABCs about automated election... very informative. Let's vote wisely, think and re-think whom we should vote for these positions because it will shape our country's future in the next six years. And let's not put to waste that one precious vote. VOTE WISELY! spoton.gif
