Competitive edge
Buzzstation has written about the “echie competition” that’s going to take place in the concerts of Billy Crawford (It’s Time, Araneta Coliseum) and Christian Bautista (Christian Bautista Inspired, Cuneta Astrodome) on Oct. 6.
They are the openers of the 2007 concert season, in which shows will not only face direct competition among themselves, but also the indirect competition by local and foreign acts scheduled for the month and the next. To put the techie edge on their shows, Billy will have an ever-changing stage and a light show, while Christian will have huge screens to be used for the first time in the country. These concerts enjoy the advantage being first, but that’s the scary part: they will be the precedent so they had better do a great job!
Buzzstation thinks the two will deliver as promised, and also highly recommends Mark Bautista’s Simply Irresistible, Jericho Rosales’ Raw Energy and Piolo Pascual’s Timeless!
Mark will never accept himself as sexy, but he does not mind that his second major concert at the Aliw Theater is tagged as Simply Irresistible (Oct. 13, 8 p.m.). How will Mark try to beat competition? With guest power and a something-for-everybody formula. It will be a three-in-one concert, with each segment having its own opening and closing parts. Script is by Noel Ferrer, with direction by Monti Parungao and musical direction by Soc Mina; they are the band segment, standard segment and the pop concert segment This concert will be top heavy with special guests like Sarah Geronimo, Rachelle Ann Go, Rufa Mae Quinto, Sitti, John “Sweet” Lapus and Anne Curtis. He’ll also have a surprise guest, which was buzzed by a concert insider as no less than Regine Velasquez! Tickets (P1,260, P1,050, P840 and P525) are available at all Ticketnet outlets (911-5555) and Viva Concerts and Events [687-6181, 620-7450].
To celebrate his 10th anniversary in the biz, Jericho Rosales will perform in Raw Energy (Oct. 18 and 19, Music Museum, 8 p.m.) which he produces and directs with Gary “Mr. Pure Energy” Valenciano to give the show competitive edge. It will be an expanded version of his Ratky’s Malate show with Jeans with “added drama,” as the featured artist puts it. Jericho had a “teleserye” vacation to be able to pursue his musical ambition. He composed the songs of the Loose Fit CD and recorded them with Jeans, released by EMI Malaysia in Asia and distributed here by EMI Philippines. After a year of absence in acting, he returned with the high-rating teleserye Pangarap na Bituin (where girlfriend Heart Evangelista is guest this week) and this Raw Energy concert. Tickets (P1,500, P1,200, P1,000, P800 and P600) are available at Genesis (721-4405 local 104, 105, & 109), Ticketworld (891-9999) and Music Museum (721-6726).
Piolo’s Timeless concert (Araneta Coliseum, Nov. 30, 8 p.m.) promises an adrenaline rush. He will fight competition by being himself, a multi-media artist who keeps perfecting his art. His singing has reached a level of excellence compared to his last CD. This 10th anniversary concert is tied up with the release of his new 16-track CD, Timeless Piolo Pascual, as produced by Jonathan Manalo for Star Records. This is a landmark album. Piolo is artist, composer and producer. He composed the “There For Me” and “Why Can’t We Be Together.” Jim Brickman wrote “Why Can’t We Be Together?” while Willy Cox did “If Only Love.” He sings the duet “If Only Love” with Toni Gonzaga. He also does the bonus track “Complete,” the Centrum multi-vitamin theme song. He will sing some of these songs in the Big Dome show.
