PHILIPPINE MOVIES has a new sweetheart in SARAH GERONIMO. The phenomenal, overwhelming success of her movie AVSL is proof of this. Sarah's movie reportedly grossed a cool P100M on its 1st week of exhibition. Last weekend, the movie ran in at least 4 cinemas at Gateway. In SM's the Bklock, it was shown in 3 theaters. Each screenings registered a full house attendance. Elsewhere, the same situation obtained. People are flocking in droves to AVSL.
And why shouldn't they? The film by Cathy Garcia Molina is highly entertainingas it is substantial. The performances of Sarah and John Lloyd are runaway hits in themselves. Sarah had the audience at the palm of her hands with the look of love written all over her face each time she faced John Lloyd, by the way she effortlessly dropped comic lines, the perfect timing with which she threw them. Sarah, like superstar Nora Aunor before her, is a natural, for heaven's sake.
It is the realization that the movie audiences have grown up. That they hae kept up with the universal standards of patronizing a film because they feel it's good or is worth their time, money, and popcorn. They probably like its story, the stars' acting, the film's funny-ness.
AVSL is bound to have greater legs in the day to come. It will continue to hit audiences with its downright honesty and high entertainment value, making SARAH GERONIMO the new darling of wholesome romantic comedies, many thanks to John Lloyd and Cathy Garcia Molina
