San Francisco NOTC Concert Review
The gate venue will open at promptly 3 pm so we thought it would be a good idea to avoid the long line by being there an hour early. Our plan didn’t go so well. We got there at 2 and there was already a long line outside the gate, waiting for the clock to turn 3. After waiting an hour in the hot sun, we were let in. The stage is right across from the San Francisco City Hall which was a good sight to do an event, but not a concert. We brought our blankets and jackets, even though it was still pretty hot during that part of the day. After entering the open venue, we went to the grassy area where everyone was supposed to be seated during the concert. We got situated and had to wait another 3 hours until the concert starts. It was pretty aggravating seating there for that long doing nothing. At around 5:40, one of the Idols, I guess, went out to say hi to the fans when people from the side started swarming near the barricade and taking the other audience’s spot in the grassy area. Then next thing you know, people in the front were standing, blocking the stage view of others behind them. People started to shout and telling them to sit down, but they won’t. This one lady next to me, started to throw peanuts at the people standing. Tsk tsk tsk. The announcer even tried threatening the audience that if we don’t cooperate, the SFPD has the right to shut down the event. It was so freaking unorganized. It was also painful and uncomfortable to sit on the grass for 6 hours.
The Show
The show started with Rachelle, Sarah and Erik sing “We Will Rock You” and “We Are The Champions.” By this time, it was getting chilly and cold. The champions introduced themselves and stated what singing contest they came from. The first up to show her singing prowess was Rachelle Ann Go. She sang a beautiful rendition of “Every time” by Britney Spears. But what I couldn’t get over was her Sharon Cuneta Medley performance. Everyone started to cheer for her whenever she hit those goose bump notes. Then she introduced Christian Bautista who sang “The Way You Look At Me.” It was nice to see people sing along to his music. It was followed by “Hands To Heaven.” Then Christian welcomed back Rachelle Ann Go, where they sang “You And Me (We Wanted It All).” Then Rachelle sang her album’s carrier single “Don’t Cry Out Loud.” It was Mark’s turn. He started by singing “How Did You Know” and followed by a Gary Valenciano Medley. He’s really funny and the crowd seemed to like him. Then he called on Sarah to go on stage with him. They sang their commercial jingle for Jollibee. They also sang one of their duets. They welcomed the other champs to join them on stage to sing and dance the novelty songs (Sasakyan Kita, Masculado Songs, Bulaklak, Pamela One, and Ocho cho). They kept repeating how cold it was in San Francisco, which it really was. It was followed by Erik’s performance. He sang “Pagbigyang Muli” This Love (Maroon5), and a Martin Nievera Medley. The crowd also seemed to favor him. He welcomed back Sarah to the stage where she said “ Mukha ba kong Santo Nino sa suot ko?” She has good hosting skills. She started with singing a Regine Velasquez Medley. I loved it! She called on the spirit of Regine to come upon her. LOL. She also did another medley, but this time, in honor of Celine Dion. Sarah also did a number with Erik, Sarah singing “Forever’s Not Enough” and Erik’s “I Believe I Can Fly.” I thought the arrangement of the number was really nice. I can tell we were nearing the end when they sang their winning pieces. Rachelle was first to sing “Through The Rain”, then Erik’s “This Is The Moment” and lastly Sarah’s “I’ll Be Waiting For You.”
It was a night to remember. With the Champions showcasing their singing prowess, they made the Filipino community here in San Francisco known to have the best talent the world hasn’t seen before.
I was also able to buy an autographed Night of the Champions CD. I thought it was live, but it was recorded. Oh well. They also had a raffle, 10 people will be able to meet and greet the champions. Too bad I wasn’t one of them.
I think they'll show the concert on TFC because I saw cameras on stage and in the back row. Let's just see.
cute talaga ni Sarah... what a greatstage presence as well as a very endearing performer :thumbs
