In my 30 years in NYC, this was the 2nd time I went to a PI independence Parade. The first time as a participant under UST banner and I never imagine in my lifetime that the 2nd time was to take pictures of the biggest Filipino Event. The incentive was because I would like to cover the event for SarahGeronimo.com and in support of Ms. Cathy Uy who was nice enough to give me a Press Pass.
As soon as my friend and I arrived in the city as early as 10 am and saw Filipinos in costumes,I had an adrenaline rush and was itching to take pictures and could you imagine my reaction when Ms. Cathy Uy texted me to say that she has my Press Pass and she was inside the Philippine Consulate. She gave me information where the float of SG will start and on our way to 36th street we met some friends who were part of the parade and the former producers of TNO. I was surprised that she recognized me.
Christian Bautista arrived first around 12:15 pm but has to stay in the car while waiting for SG. Not a lot of people knew where Sg will start so I had an advantage in taking pictures. I had a great time taking pictures and I am telling you guys she was everybodys dream, the camera loves her and she was so pretty.I met people who came all the way from Washington DC and other TRI-State area. The reaction of some who saw her for the first time was sometimes laughable but I was happy for them. When some people saw my Press Pass, they thought I knew everything about SG and started asking what paper I was working for... that was really something else but I told them I am covering for SG.COM...hehehe.
At exact 1pm the car of SG. arrived. She came in with her parents and Sir Jay. The security surrounded the car and the float. It was not bad for me coz' of my Press Pass and they were a little lax with me coz' I was also taking their pictures.
Both CB and SG were wonderful. They allowed to take their pictures, some kids even went up to the float, and at one point they started singing. For the meantime people at the parade route were waiting for her and even Bel and her cousins were infront of the stage at the 29th street.
I had goosebumps once the float of SG reached the main parade route. People were shouting her name and there were a sea of people who rushed following her float. I felt sorry for the last groups of participant . People just followed her float. My friend started shouting at me to take the picture of the crowd. I did my best but I started moving without really taking a step. The crowd were just pushing me and I saw this Filipino guy on a wheelchair trying to maneuver his wheelchair so I stopped taking the pictures and helped him.
I lost my friend and thank god for cell phones. Finally we met near the food section were my niece and an American friend joined us. She was so amazed that she started taking pictures of SG too. She is a professional Photographer and she was laughing when she was telling me this story of a teenager beside her shouting SG'S name and in tears and was almost hysterical.
What a day...SG and CB were at the Belo booth from 3-4pm... I did not even bother to go... i guess i'll give my spot to someone else. We went home not tasting the good food coz' the crowd were too much. Maybe it will take hours just to get a stick of barbecue so we ended up in Red Ribbon in Queens.
I will be uploading the pictures soon... I have to figure out how to do it again but it will be faster if I upload first at My fb and to those who have access pls. help out in transferring them to SG. com otherwise it will take me forever...

Ok guys n gals...I just got home and still uploading my vids to my PC. I will share the YT links as I upload them. I got vids n dont have much pix. I'll try n grab some from Tita Menchit's FB, since she txted me we can. Calling masipag Jhonie or other sg.comians who want to do that honor para ma-post na dito. I-WM nyo na rin...hehehe!
As for kwento, sorry guys, hindi rin ako magaling mag kwento..but for the love of SG, I will try.
I txted Tita Menchit as soon as I arrived in the city. But it was so crowded I was worried na hindi ko talaga makikita c Sarah n of course Tita. My companions didnt want to walk up to 36th so we stayed near 27th St Madison Ave...where the food are (ayun amoy BBQ ako..wahahaha!) Luckily, we were able to get a spot on a ledge on that corner and just waited for the parade n floats to pass us by. I got a few photos of this but SG is so small here. I bet Tita Menchit will have better pix with her good camera. I only have a point n shoot camera. I still have to see if my sister was able to take good ones from the parade n show. She got a better camera. Sadly, she's in her room na kaya bukas ko na cya istorbohin b4 she goes to work.
People's reaction to seeing SG?....The usual...the people around me were ooh-ing and aaah-ing when they saw Sarah. They said, an-liit nya, am-payat pala nya...ay, ang ganda, ganda pala nya sa personal. I overheard a few kids (filipino-blood born in the US and their white friends, I guess!.... coz they have the accent), they also said " She's the one we always watch on tv who sing n dance good." They were confirming to their foreigner friends that it is indeed, Sarah. They all said, she's beautiful...with that tone na they were in awe...hahaha! Palakpak tenga ko, ngumingisi lang ako while walking towards the food again....waaaahhh, I didn't get to pig out on the banana cue n mais con yelo that I was craving for...haba ng pila. But then who cares abt me...hehehe
Earlier, I saw the Belo booth and you know, since I know, SG will be there, I asked if they have so and so product tapos segueway...ay dadating si Sarah sa booth nyo? asus!..ayun oo daw at 3pm-4pm....off I go planning to come back after the parade to see Sarah here. .....Near as I was to the booth after the parade, there was already a long line and a crush at the booth. My companions didn't want me to go there na as they wanted to get some food na lng elsewhere coz all the pinoy food booths have such long lines na at this time. People got hungry after watching the parade. So off we went in search of more food...me, walking with a long face...hahaha...I was so disappointed.
So, we went back and onwards to the show. It was raining off n on all throughout the show. I think my sister opened her umbrella 3x. Rain, ,really is laughable. As compared to Pinas rain, here, it was just ...para kang winiwisikan lang...hahaha! We went near the stage lang nung mejo later part of the show na, when Christian got to the stage na. Throughout the show, most of the people were so impatient to see Sarah that there were sporadic shouts/chants of "Sarah, Sarah, Sarah!, in between performances. Sometimes the shouts were spurred on by Gelo, the TFC guy. At one point he asked, T-shirt or Sarah and the people around me shouted... Sarah! These are teenagers with foreigner friends with them, pinoys of all ages, a lot are guys too! We were all of like-mind demanding to see Sarah. Ayun, ngisi-ngisi lang ako...so proud of our Bebe...feeling ako ang nanay nya....wahahaha! Even my sister who is a Kimerald fan, who gets weirded out whenever I go crazy for SG took pictures of SG without me prompting her to do it. But she didn't shout SG's name with me. I guess it was too much to ask for hehehe! I will share her photos as well..just bear with me..mahina po kalaban at sa malamang po, bukas ko pa yun mapo-forward for WM-ing!
Of course, since SG is the main event, she came on almost last. I think they held off Kitchie's performance for last, since it was raining nga on n off. dumidilim na ulit. Since I dont really like taking pix, I got vids of the whole thing. From spiels to the performances of SG. Pacencia na kayo kase magalaw n not too malinaw coz I only got a small camera talaga. Plus there was a pasaway parade participant/person watching the show and she was wearing a humungous flower hat n waving 3 small Phil flags. She was situated in front of me that I always need to move my cam. You'll probably laugh becoz I was shouting for somebody to yank her hat off at one point. natawa rin ako sa sarili ko, actually. I didn't want to be mean but I cant get good vids...hahahah...sakim! So pacencia na po. N also, I was shouting a lot too...churi much, excited lng po! I'm pretty sure, there will be other people with better footage from their better cams, who will share here.
Hindi ko na po kwento yung sa show..panoorin nyo na lang po yung vids...to follow na po. Currently loading to YT na po ung first vid.
Nga pala, a lot went home na after SG's performance. Kami rin...hehehe

Thanks ining1 (or ikaw ba si Ate Menchit?)sa nice kwento. Nakaka-touch naman esp yung teenager na in tears at naghysterical while calling SARAH's name. At saka yung sumunod ang crowd sa float ni SARAH n Christian. Iba talaga ang charm ni SARAH, kahit saan siya magpunta pinagkakaguluhan talaga. Thank God.
