‘Hating Kapatid’ gets a B

JUDY ANN SANTOS and Sarah GeronimoViva Films’ latest offering, the family comedy “Hating Kapatid” starring two box-office superstars Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo scored twin victories at the tills opening with P11-million gross in box-office receipts and bagging a B rating from the Cinema Evaluation Board (CEB) at the same time.

We attended the movie’s full-packed premier last Monday at SM Megamall and we truly had a wonderful time watching it. It was wacky, highly entertaining and super hilarious. For almost two hours, “Hating Kapatid” made us forget our worries and we gave in to fits of laughter all throughout the movie.

Each of the stars has his own moment of grandeur – one-liners and situational gags doing the trick. Juday and Sarah are both natural comics. Yes, these two are wonderful dramatic actresses, we all know it, but seeing them deliver those funny lines in the film without any effort to be funny is just so excellent. Their comedy is so effective.

We can think of several favorite scenes with them but there are three that stand out in our mind: When Sarah (Cecil) was giving her Ate Rica (Judy Ann) a foot spa; or when Rica was trying to secure her younger sister’s safety by taking photos of all the passengers in the jeep where Cecil was to ride; or when the two were trying to seriously talk about Cecil’s closeness with Edsel (Luis Manzano) supposedly without the presence of their cousin Noel (DJ Durano).

Vice Ganda and Luis Manzano also have their share of wonderful contributions to making the film as wacky and as beautifully hilarious as possible. Vice Ganda’s comedy sketches he usually performs in comedy bars and concert halls were in the movie, too, and even when we’ve seen it several times, still, we found ourselves laughing our hearts off with it. Luis was so brilliant in that scene at a wake where he sings an Ilocano song. Luis comes out so much better here than in anywhere we’ve seen his dad do comedy

Thanks FULGOR for sharing......great review!

To those who have'nt watch Hating Kapatid - please watch it, it's better than AVSL,YCML and even Tanging Ina of AiAi. To those who watched it already - I know you know how nice the movie is and are still planning to watch again and again like me, ehehe. Yung mga teaser sa tv about HK di gaanong maimpact, so let us just help spread the news that the movie is soooooh nice, will make you laugh while cryin, and crying while laughing (iba ang feeling). Happy Birthday Sarah!
