After only more than a month of airing, ABS-CBN primetime music-serye “Idol” will have its finale this week.
“Idol,” which stars Box Office Queen Sarah Geronimo, Sam Milby and Coco Martin, premiered on September 6 and will end on October 22.
An online report quoted Biboy Arboleda, “Idol’s” advertising and promotions head, as saying that high production costs - particularly the royalty fees of songs used on the show - and scheduling problems were the reasons for the early ending of “Idol.”
“Idol” was originally scheduled to air for 10-13 weeks, according to Arboleda.
Milby added that lack of time resulted in the early demise of “Idol.”
According to the actor, the cast and crew would usually tape an episode in the morning. The same episode would be shown later in the evening.
And with him and Geronimo doing shows abroad, shooting for “Idol” would be even more difficult, he said.
Rumor has it that “Idol’s” low TV ratings were pulling down ABS-CBN “Primetime Bida’s” over-all performance, prompting the network to pull it off the air. The staff of the program, however, refuted the speculations.
Saddened
Milby said he and the cast of “Idol” were saddened by the decision of the network to cut the show short.
The actor admitted that bidding goodbye to his co-stars is more difficult, especially now that all of them have grown closer together.
On the supposed budding romance between him and Geronimo, meanwhile, Milby denied it.
He maintained that he does not want to make a big fuss over his team-up with Geronimo. He also hopes that he and Geronimo will work again in the near future.
Milby, who was rumored to be dating international acoustic singer Marie Digby, added that he is still single.
Though he denied any romantic commitment, Milby confessed that he and Digby are still exchanging text messages from time to time.
