MANILA, Philippines - There are times when Sarah Geronimo’s eyes tell a different tale from what she says.
In a recent interview with Bulletin Entertainment and other members of media, the singer-actress had repeatedly said that she is happy over the blessings she has been receiving in her career and for the strong relationship she enjoys with family members. She kept saying “we should be content” and that everything eventually falls into place at the right time---to just keep the faith. It’s all good.
But sometimes, her voice trembles and her smile doesn’t reach her eyes when certain things from the recent past are brought up.
Recall that in 2012, Sarah’s “almost-there” romance with actor Gerald Anderson concluded in quite unpredictable fashion. After months of courting her, it just stopped. And to this day, only speculations abound: that Gerald simply had a change of heart about the whole things, that Sarah failed to fight for their love, that the courtship was only for publicity’s sake to begin with, that there was a third party involved, and that Sarah’s “strict” parents left Gerald with no choice but to give up.
It’s been months since Sarah and Gerald had happier times together and with the new year upon us, perhaps time has already healed old wounds?
“May mga bagay na ayaw nating ipilit. Kung hindi pa talaga handa ang lahat, hindi po natin yon mapipilit. Darating din tayo dyan,” she said.
Sarah’s only hope is that she has emerged a stronger person from everything that happened. She doesn’t deny that there are “regrets” but these serve as constant reminders for her to not allow “history to repeat itself” once love finds her again.
“Kung willing naman si Lord na ibigay sa akin yon---yung happy ending ko---sigurado kong mangyayari yon. Kelangan ko lang i-guard yung puso ko, to be more careful next time.”
The star said she doesn’t have suitors right now but if someone comes along, there’s one thing to keep in mind.
“Dapat hindi siya mapapagod na ipaglaban ako. Kailangan ang lalaking manligaw sa akin, alam niya na meron akong nanay, meron akong tatay na nagpuprotekta sa akin.”
Then there’s the career to factor in. One of the busiest young stars in show business, Sarah’s schedule is jampacked even just a week into 2013. There’s the movie with John Lloyd, a new album, a planned TV series co-starring Coco Martin, her two weekly shows on ABS-CBN, concerts here and abroad, her duties as endorser of this and that---indeed, the “One” for Sarah has to be, well, very understanding.
What’s her resolution this year?
“Ang mapangalagaan po ang lahat ng values na na-instill sa akin ng mga magulang ko…syempre, ayokong masayang ang pag-iingat sa akin ng mga magulang ko at pagiging magandang ehemplo rin sa mga kabataan, sa mga ka-age ko. Bahala na ang Dyos.”
When Bulletin Entertainment made a final attempt to coax Sarah to talk about Gerald by asking her if they still communicate, the singer said, her eyes shining again:
“Wag na lang po natin pagusapan.”
