San Francisco, The Best Crowd Ever
JayR reporting for SarahGeronimo.com
June 04, 2005
Saturday, June 4th on a Sunny afternoon in San Francisco, California. As I approach Nob Hill Masonic Center, I see there are tons of people waiting in line to catch Raymond Manalo, Frenchie Dy, Sheryn Regis, Christian Bautista, Rachelle Ann Go, Mark Bautista and our very own Ms. Sarah Geronimo. Being that I didn't have anybody to go with, having my friends back down on me. I met a couple new friends like little sister Jede, Adeno and Brian [sorry If I forgot everybody else's names], hangin' out with them for a while, finding out they still didn't have their tickets, until Jede, Adeno and I ended up sitting next to each other. Although little sister Jede wasn't satisfied with our seats, luckily we had good seats priced at $81.00, but we were lucky to get a good rate, let's just keep put it that way. You would think It would just stop there? Nope! We had a plan B!
The Begining
So of course we all know how concerts start "Filipino time", during the dead time, people were just talking, until some unpatient ones ending up screaming "Ang tagal naman, magluluto pa ako", to someone else responding "Anong lulutuin mo?" and lastly someone screamed "Sunog" who could that be? Of course the non-stop clapping that would convince them to start. Until they got "Boo'd", next thing you know the show begins.
FYI: If you want a show to start right away, start "Boo-ing" haha.
Opening Act
Next Phaze A local boyband from San Francisco, they currently have an EP out in the market. I personally know them, I admit to talking them into me, meeting the Champions. But that didn't happened! It was really strict, they themselves didn't have the opportunity to meet the Champions. Let's just say Next Phaze was a very good start, they got the party started, they hyped the crowd. They started off by singing their version [to the background of Let's Get Married] followed by a medley for the older generation "Sugar-pie Honeybunch" & "My Girl" and their last number was a tagalog medley "Tell Me", "Forevermore" & "Sana Maulit Muli", the solo's, melodies and the harmonies were a really great start and introduction to the Champions.

And now.....The Return of the Champions!!!!!
Flashback it's the return of Sarah, Mark, Rachelle and Christian, the new additions to this concert series are Sheryn Regis, Frenchie Dy and Raymond Manalo.
All the Champions came out in full force wearing all white, singing the song "Fame" as well as their individual solo's to classics and old disco hits.
2004 Search For A Star 1st Runner-up - Raymond Manalo
Newcomer Raymond Manalo, a new fresh face to all of us! He sang his latest single "Kung Alam Ko Lang" and he sounded really well live, just like what everbody else is saying "He needs more exposure".
2003 Star In A Million 1st Runner-up - Sheryn Regis
She definitely represented being "Visaya/Cebuano", she became an instant crowd favorite, singing her medley of songs such as "Kailan Kaya" [Marina theme], "Maybe", "Come On In Out Of The Rain" and "Follow Your Dream".
2003 Star In A Million 3rd Runner-up - Christian Bautista
What can I say about Christian? After recently winning an Awit Award and having a hit in Indonesia, he's definitely improved as an artist. Definitely a crowd favorite, he sang his medley of songs "The Way You Look Tonight", "Hands To Heaven", "Kelan Kaya", his portion was really cool because there was a story behind each song.
which also lead to this next performer
2004 Search For A Star Grand Champion - Rachelle Ann Go
Christian had a duet with Rachelle to the song "Say That You Love Me" a similar version to [Josh Santana & Michelle Ayalde's version on Hiram or Jay-R & Kyla's rendition of the song] the difference with their version was it was very intimate. After their number, the entire audience screamed "Kiss" and Christian was very kind to give her a kiss on the cheeks. Rachelle sang her latest single "From The Start" as well as "Don't Cry Out Loud".
The Ladies come out singing their medley as well as individual solos like "I'm Coming Out", "Last Dance", "R.E.S.P.E.C.T.", "Ain't No Mountain High Enough", etc.
2004 Star In A Million Grand Champion - Frenchie Dy
Isn't she sexy? Do you guys think she's sexy? She took the moment to interact with the audience, asking them "Isn't she more sexy than the other 4?" and everybody screamed "Yes" until numerous "I love you's" came screaming out the audience. She's like "Tama na ang I love you"! She started off by singing Alicia Key's "If I Ain't Got You".
The Champions all gathered again to sing the latest Novelty Hits such as "In Or Out", "Basketbol", "Jumbo Hot Dog", "Wag Dyan - Kiliti", "Bulaklak", "Totoy Bibo" and "Kikay".
2003 Star For A Night 1st Runner-up - Mark Bautista
He sang the theme song to one of ABS-CBN's new soaps "Ikaw Ang Lahat Sa Akin", he even went down to the audience and serenaded them. He also meantioned "Some of you guys know me as Baste", "How's Baste going to be possible if there's no Sarah".
which also leads to the most awaited performer of the night
2003 Star For A Night Grand Champion - Sarah Geronimo
Mark and Sarah sing one of the latest hits "Let The Love Begin" after that Sarah sang "Lumingon Ka Lang" during the entire song she was off-stage singing and greeting the audience. She next sings a medley of her hits like "How Could You Say You Love", "Forever's Not Enough" as well as a few Celine Dion songs ending back to "Forever's Not Enough". After that number she was the only performer of the night to recieved a standing ovation from the audience, it was pretty obious who the crowd came out to see. She was definitely a crowd favorite, so of course save the best for last, I wasn't sure cause I didn't have close view of Sarah, but it seemed like she left the stage teary-eyed.

The Male Champions
Mark, Christian and Raymond come out singing ABS-CBN soaps like "Pangako Sa'yo", "Basta't Kasama Kita", "Darating Ang Umaga", "Ikaw", "It Might Be You" and "You'll Be Safe Here".
The Female Champions
Sarah, Rachelle, Frenchie and Sheryn they sang a Diva Medley from artists' like
Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston.
Final Performance Of The Night
The Champions all combine for their final number with songs like "A Moment Like This", "I Believe I Can Fly" and The Return of the Champions theme song "I Believe" by American Idol - Fantasia Barrino.
Quick rewind: So from our original seats, we moved to the next section as well as a couple rows in front. From our seats the view was great! After their final number we head to the stage and take plenty of pictures, I got to say "Bye" to Frenchie, she pointed back at me and I waved. I saw one of the promoters from Island Pacific, he remembered me as well. Next thing you know! They've only got 30 minutes for the Champions to meet and greet the audience, it took forever before the Champions came out and started signing. Adeno was literally right beside me, as the line flows, he made his way to the front only to find out that people with albums are only allowed to meet the Champions. I still stayed in line, some folks without albums made it inside, I tried my luck! By the time I reached the front of the line, the Champions had to leave, so I started calling Jede, I didn't get a chance to say goodbye to them.
As I leave Nob Hill Masonic center, I saw the limo outside as well as that one promoter guy waiting by the door. Another chance and attempt to meet the Champions, it was kinda like one of those Hollywood exits except there was no red carpet and no velvet rope. Some people gathered and waited outside, soon a human chain was blocked leading into their limousine. As the Champions exit, people are screaming as well as taking pictures of them exiting and entering in to their vehicle. First was Christian, Mark, Sheryn, Raymond, Rachelle and Frenchie, Sarah didn't get to make it to the vehicle and the small crowd got large, so the limo went ahead without Sarah. At this point I see Daddy Delfin and I'm like "Congrats po! Ang galing" and I was like "Daddy pwede mag pa-picture nalaang po sa'inyo?" and he agreed so we took a picture together. Next thing you know people knew that it was Sarah's dad, so they also took pictures with him.

Christian and Mark are leaving the venue

Sheryn kissed a fan before she stepped in
And people are still waiting, finally the mini-van pulls up and Sarah comes out with Mommy Divina and little brother. Continious pictures and Sarah also stopped before she stepped into the vehicle to sign and take pictures, but promoter guy made her go in and from there people were still taking pictures and asking for her autograph even though she was already in the van. Next thing you know the van had to leave!
Final Thoughts
My Return of the Champions experience was worth it, I got the meet the Champions in person, aside from seeing them on ASAP every Sunday, I got another chance to see them perform live, I gained new friends from SG.com, I had a wonderful time at the concert dispite my every effort in trying to meet them again in person. After that night I was completely satisfied, I was just too tired to post my review, so here you guys have it!
Last Attempt
So on Sunday I spent the entire day with my friends, it's 8PM and it was still somewhat bright and we ended up going to our usual spot in Burlingame, we ended up checking the Hilton Hotel. My friend really needed to use the bathroom and I see vans parked in the front of the hotel, these vans looked familiar, it looked like the vans I saw at Island Pacific in South City. I was checking out my digital camera cause I took a picture of Sarah inside the mini-van [from the previous night] and so the picture I was looking at resembled the mini-van I saw parked in front of the hotel. At this point my friends are inside the hotel and I'm outside waiting for them, until I ended up going inside and my other friend pointed to the promoters van in back of the hotel and I'm like "oh sh*t! they're here", hoping they'd come out of their hotel room. We didn't want to ask where they were staying, we were about to just crash and walk in the hallways but nah. We gave it a rest and headed home!
Keep posted as I post more pictures
