Kristoff is probably the most popular scholar among the 20 who got into ABS-CBN’s Pinoy Dream Academy last August 26. He is also one of the eight global scholars, having auditioned in June in San Francisco, California.
After all, being in the probation list four times by texters voters, even getting 53 percent and 47 percent of the votes earlier.
He was the 6th expulsion case last Oct. 21-after Gemma, Jun, Geoff, Oona and RJ.
Unlike some PDA scholars who live through being members of the band like Yvan, Eman, Jay-R, Panky, Iya and Chai, Kristoff regarded music as a hobby.
His parents enjoy music so he took piano lessons when he was 7 to 13, got involved with the guitar recently, sings in Sunday Church (Catholic) back home. To please friends, he also sang in wedding, debuts and parties.
His dream to be a great singer and song-writer are on hold, since back home he pursues an accountancy course (third year) at the Red River College in Winnepeg. A straight A-student and president of his class.
At the same time, he used to hold two jobs in summer -- as grocery clerk in the Giant Tiger grocery and as data encoder at the Winnepeg Tax Center.
Actually, his entrance to the PDA was an answer to his sister’s dare: Being a regular viewer of TFC, he remarked that he could do what ASAP performers can do. So when they heard of the PDA auditions in San Francisco, he and her sister bought two tickets for the audition. Luckily, he made it, making his sister proud.
In spite of her job, his ate Kristine visited Kristoff the other week and it was only last Nov. 3 that she went home to Winnepeg where she works as payroll manager.
Kristoff insists that he was raised as a work-oriented Pinoy by his parents, making it a rule for them to speak in Tagalog at home.
And as his mom would tell him: "If you wish to live alone someday, you must learn how to do things by yourself. And don’t forget to pray."
So his stay at the PDA house showed he could cook and clean the house, especially the kitchen and the comfort room, and washed plates too of some lazy PDA scholars. In fact, better than the girls.
Kristoff admits that his new singing and acting career after PDA is more than he expected from joining the PDA auditions. Everything unthought of and unplanned.
Surely this is Destiny. God’s will indeed
