Sarah Geronimo honored at Nickelodeon’s Kid’s Choice Awards 2004

The country’s hottest young diva, Sarah Geronimo nabbed Philippine’s first Kids’ Choice Wannabe Award, the Pinoy Wannabe – an honor bestowed on a celebrity role model who kids “most want to be” during the recently concluded Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards (KCA) Sneak Preview Party at the Glorietta Activity Center, Makati last, May 30.

The excitement was contagious as kids awaited the results of Nick’s local nominations featuring their favorite stars of TV, movies, music, and sports at this year’s mess-fest hosted by Nick’s Whacked! hosts, Noel de la Rosa and Alexa Ortega, who were joined by local teen sensation Dale Villar.

Kids got “Nick’d” with grooves, slime, stunts, and stars that all started with on-the-spot Hollywood-style interviews on the orange carpet. Kids glammed up with glitter, gel, and fancy smells at the SPA-lon booth where DJs from 94.7 conducted a satellite broadcast.

The KCA party reached fever pitch when Outkast’s “Hey Ya” and “I Like the Way You Move” played welcoming Ronald McDonald and his Super McTroopers with the Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdog and URC Nips character mascots as they sauntered down the orange carpet. More decibel-breaking shrieks, screams and high-fives greeted Bikini Bottom superstars SpongeBob SquarePants and his best friend Patrick Star giving way to the cool entrance of Whacked! hosts Noel dela Rosa, Alexa Ortega with Dale Villar aboard their scooters.

Kids tapped, clapped and cheered at the rousing acoustic performance of Karylle and the R&B rap number by Viva talent Ashley while the audience got all starstruck’d as hot teen idols Jennylyn Mercado, Yasmien Kurdi, Mark Herras and Rainier Castillo joined the show’s hosts and dance marshals to do the Nick Grooves dance-along segment.

Games such as the “Catch Me Sports Game” were spearheaded by hard court celebrities Alvin Patrimonio, Boyet Fernandez, Jun Limpot, Kerby Raymundo, James Yap, and Paul Artadi who played walking “goals”, as kids threw their orange-and-white paper balls onto the baskets on their heads.
What’s moreKids were treated to a “Sneak Peek” at the starstudded 17th annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2004 hosted by Mike Myers and Cameron Diaz held in Los Angeles last April 3. It is scheduled for telecast on the Nickelodeon channel today, June 6 at 9 a.m.

Kids had an outrageous time dancing to Nick Grooves with game marshals teaching them the Rocket Power Stomp, Fairly Odd Parents Hand Jive, Rugrats Wiggle and the SpongeBob Shuffle. The Jelly Ace Statue Dance, was also a hit among kids as they all wanted a chance to get slimed on stage with slime guns!

Local nominations were announced right after the dandy Guess fashion parade with kids honouring their Favourite Celebrity (Hillary Duff), Favourite TV Show (Spongebob Squarepants), Favourite Movie (Harry Potter Series), Favourite Book (Harry Potter Series), and Favourite Music Performer/Band (Simple Plan) who all made it to the top with the Philippines’ very own pop star Sarah Geronimo as the first Nick Pinoy Wannabe favourite!

Kids didn’t want to say goodbye! But a cool sing-along, slime spurts, sudden confetti bursts and a shower of orange-and-white balloons ended the show with a bang! Oh yeah, it was surely something the kids looked forward to!

There’s no doubt about it - the extraordinary stunts, games and songs at the recent Nick KCA sums up not only a splendid event but also reaffirms thatwith Nickelodeon, kids are the real stars!

The 17th annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards will premiere on June 6 at 9 a.m. on Nickelodeon.
(The Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards 2004 Sneak Preview Party was presented by Purefoods Tender Juicy Hotdogs, and co-sponsored by McDonald’s, Cetrinets, Jellyace, and Nips, with official partners Ayala Center, Guess, Yehey! Philippines, 94.7 Mellow Touch, Kzone, and Sky/Home Cable.)
