by Rey Anthony Chiu
Tagbilaran City (2 February) -- ADVANCING youth participation as the investment in time to empower and goad them to actively participate in planning and implementing youth development, young leaders in cooperation with the Provincial Government and the sectors here bring the Bohol Youth Day celebration set this March 10-11 at the Carlos P. Garcia Sports Complex.
The gathering, set to target as much as 10-20 thousand youth in one location of prayers and vigil, social and cultural learning, voter’s education and sports activities would also be the first ever province wide massive gathering of youth after the Diocesan Youth Day, an activity patterned after the World Youth Day in 1985.
Another possible entry to innovations in governance, the Bohol Youth Day aims to foster camaraderie and friendship among youth while giving them a venue for getting updated on the local youth development plan and to keep them abreast of local efforts to youth development. The event also would provide the venue to recognize young achievers as well, the concept paper rationale bared.
Aside from that, the gathering would also be the venue for the launching of at least three government programs: the Green Philippines Program, Barkada Kontra Droga and the Philippine Medium Term Youth Development Plan and its local counterpart, the Bohol Youth Development Plan.
The activity, spearheaded by the National Youth Commission (NYC), Sangguniang Kabataan and the Diocesan Youth Commission would involve at least ten delegates from the 1,109 barangays, schools and universities here as well as NYC delegates from across the country, says NY Commissioner Benjie Oliva, in a recent interview.
Aside from the Bohol youth, also set to attend are SK federation Chair Frances Bobbith Cajes-Auza, Boholano actor and director Cesar Montano, television actor and model Dingdong Dantes, NYC Chairman Richard Alvin Nalupta, Dangerous Drugs Board Chairman Anselmo Avenido, Secretary Mike Defensor and singing sensations Sarah Geronimo, Christian Bautista and Jerome Sala.
To facilitate youth participation, the Department of Interior and Local Government has issued a regional memorandum No. 2007-002 to mayors and local leaders to allow the youth attendance while traveling coats and incidental expenses may be charged to local funds subject to usual accounting procedures. ----tama ka ChairC dahil March 10th yata ang last concert niya sa Canada. Tapos pinas is ahead by almost one day kaysa dito sa USA/Canada kaya paano yan? Talagang perfect ambassador siya sa mga kabataan, kaya lang hindi naman puwedeng she's in more than one place at the same time.
