As the release date of their upcoming Star Cinema movie draws near, My Amnesia Girl star Toni Gonzaga admits that given co-star John Lloyd Cruz’s successful onscreen pairings with Bea Alonzo and Sarah Geronimo, she feels the pressure of continuing Lloydy’s box-office winning streak. “Siyempre naisip ko yan nung bago pa. Siguro ang thinking ko sa ngayon, kung yan lang ang magiging batayan ng isipan ko, eh baka hindi ko tinanggap yung proyekto. Baka hindi ko na ginawa. Dahil siyempre natatakot ako at malaki yung risk. Pero at the end of the day, you leave it all up to God, sa kanya at saka para sa akin, sa panahon ngayon, para mabigyan ka ng ganitong opportunity, siguro mas maging grateful na lang ako at mas maging thankful ako instead of being pressured, mas i-e-enjoy ko na lang yung pelikula, mas namnamin ko yung pagkakataon na nagkatrabaho ulit kami ni direk Cathy (Garcia-Molina), makasama ko ulit yung mga nakatrabaho ko dati sa mga pelikulang nagawa ko noon at siyempre yung chance na makatrabaho ko si John Lloyd. So yun ang iniisip ko ngayon. Na i-enjoy ko yung moment at I am really grateful sa pelikulang ito,” she said.

Toni said she was very impressed with the professionalism John Lloyd showed on the set and even learned a couple of things from him. “Siyempre nung una kinakabahan talaga ako dahil alam ko kung gaano kahusay si John Lloyd bilang isang actor. Pero nakakatuwa pagka-gumawa na kami ng eksena kasi ang sarap niyang katrabaho kasi he brings out the best in you. Kaya pala ang husay husay ng mga pelikula niya. Very effective siya kasi hindi siya selfish na actor. Shina-share niya yung mga eksena, shini-share niya yung emotions niya. So madadala ka talaga. Kapag nasa eksena ka, nararamdaman ko talaga na ako si Irene na ‘pag mahal niya ako, nararamdaman ko na mahal niya ako so feel na feel ko naman yung mga ganun so love ko din naman siya (laughs),” she shared.

Even though they have known each other for a while now having worked in ASAP and Maging Sino Ka Man before, Toni said she discovered just how serious Lloydy is about his craft. “Nalaman ko na kahit ano pa yung eksena niya, metikuloso pala talaga siya. At saka talagang sobra yung passion niya sa trabaho niya, sa craft niya. Talagang inaalam niya yung transition ng emotion ng character niya, yung mga pinanggalingan. And from there, ayun natututo ako. Inalam ko rin yung transition ng aking character. So madadala ka di ba kasi bago yun. Nakakadala siya bilang actor. Tapos naalala ko nun, nag-uusap sila ni direk Cathy, sabi niya nag-aalala siya sa acting niya. Napakamot naman ako ng ulo. Sabi ko, kung nag-aalala si John Lloyd sa acting niya, ano na lang kaya yung acting ko? (laughs) Ganun siya, iniisip niya talaga yung trabaho niya. Dedicated talaga siya dun,” she said.

MANILA, Philippines (1st UPDATE) - Songstress Zyrene Parsad sang the Philippine national anthem ahead of the Manny Pacquiao-Antonio Margarito clash on Saturday in Texas (Sunday in Manila).

The 24-year-old Parsad sang the "Lupang Hinirang" at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

She donned a red Filipiniana gown decked with Swarovski crystals designed by Pepsi Herrera.

A Mexican recording star sang the Mexican national anthem while the Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders sang "The Star-Spangled Banner."

After the performance of the three national anthems, US hip hop recording star Nelly provided some entertainment for the 70,000 to 75,000 crowd in attendance.

Before going to the United States, Parsad told Mornings@ANC: "I'm going to sing it right, not on my own interpretation, because I respect the composer of the song."

Parsad, who broke into the music scene after winning 3rd place in the singing search "Are You the Next Big Star?", visited the National Historical Institute (NHI) on Tuesday to get pointers on how to sing the anthem properly.

NHI's Heraldry section chief Teddy Atienza reminded Parsad not to change the tune and tempo of the song. He said taking liberties with the national anthem could lead to a fine of P20,000 to P40,000 plus a 1-year jail sentence, in accordance with the provisions of the National Flag Law.

The NHI previously reminded Filipino artists singing the national anthem during Pacquiao fights not to take liberties with the song. Among those chastised by the institution for their wrong renditions of the anthem are Martin Nievera, Arnel Pineda, La Diva, Sarah Geronimo, Lani Misalucha and Charice Pempengco.

The NHI said that if properly sung with a two-fourths beat and 100 metronomes, the national anthem should last 53 seconds.

According to Section 37 of Republic Act (RA) 8491, the rendition of the national anthem, whether played or sung, shall be in accordance with the musical arrangement and composition of Julian Felipe.

Sarah stays with Magic Sing

Magic Sing sole distributor The Astra Group, Inc. recently renewed its endorsement contract with Pop Star Sarah Geronimo, thus extending the relationship that began in 2008.

Sarah remains as the only choice of the company. According to Astra chairman and president Eric D. Singson: "Our company considers Sarah Geronimo as the perfect endorser for the Magic Sing brand.

"We love her class and wholesome public image, which in spite of her fantastic popularity and success both as a singer and an actor, have remained unsullied. Sarah’s qualities as a person perfectly exemplify Magic Sing’s own emphasis on class, high quality, style, and product integrity."

Singson recalled that when the Magic Sing videoke microphone was introduced in the year 2000, it became an instant hit in this nation of karaoke lovers. Since then, imitations and similar products have tried but failed to ride on the brand’s popularity.

"As of today," he said, "the total number of Magic Sing brand portable videokes acquired by Philippine households is almost 1,000,000 units, against an estimated 120,000 units for all the other portable videoke brands combined, including some phased-out imitations."

The Magic Sing brand’s hold on the Philippine market is expected to increase even further, now that it has launched the highly affordable Magic Sing Karat, which has become the brand’s top-seller since it was introduced in August. Positioned for the Broad C and D households, the Karat retails at only P5,900. "But," Singson is quick to emphasize, "the Karat does not compromise on quality and value. In fact, even A/B and Upper C buyers are snapping it up. It is an honest-to-goodness, genuine Magic Sing. It is a home entertainment product that every household can be proud to own."
