Sarah, raratsada sa probinsiya
By Alfie Lorenzo MONDAY, JULY 26, 2010 ABANTE

Record Breaker is also the title of Sarah’s super hit concert at the Araneta Coliseum in 2009. The provincial tour hopes to duplicate the success of the Big Dome show and reaffirm Sarah’s status as a record breaker and industry trendsetter.

The tour is sponsored by Globe Tattoo, Sunsilk, Belo Essentials, Jollibee, Cebuana Lhuillier, Selecta Milk, 555 Corned Tuna, Elaia, Superstar, Charmee, Sony Ericsson, Skechers Shape Ups and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

Sarah’s busy schedule shows no sign of let-up. Up next for her is a new TV series under ABS-CBN starring Sam Milby and Matteo Guidicelli.

Hating Kapatid grosses P10.5 million!

There are many reasons Sarah Geronimo’s followers should not miss Hating Kapatid, which grossed P10.5 million in yesterday’s first day screening.

First, it’s her one and only movie this year. So this is the first and only time fans will catch their idol on the big screen for this year. And, judging from the rushes, Hating Kapatid has all the makings of a blockbuster. It could even make Sarah a box-office queen for the third time in a row (she has won the Box-Office Queen title twice – for You Changed My Life and A Very Special Love).

The second come-on of Hating Kapatid lies in Sarah’s role as the youngest daughter of OFWs. Sarah returns to a genre many of her fans have grown to love seeing her in: comedy. "That’s why I love the challenge this film gives me," says Sarah.

The third come-on is Sarah’s team-up with Judy Ann Santos. It’s the two stars’ first team-up, and Sarah learned a lot from Judy Ann, who plays her older sister Rica in the movie. "She’s not only a good actress but a beautiful person a well," Sarah describes Judy Ann.

The fourth reason Hating Kapatid is a must-see is that it features a new tandem, that of Sarah and Luis Manzano. Sarah and Luis’ rapport makes the screen ignite with romance.

Produced by Viva Films, Hating Kapatid, a project by the blockbuster tandem of Wenn Deramas and Mel Mendoza-Del Rosario, is also Sarah’s early birthday offering to fans, since she turns 22 this coming Sunday, July 25.

‘Hating Kapatid’ screens overseas

SO, Filipino movies are going global. Well, at least they are screening in cities across the world with sizeable Filipino communities.

Hating Kapatid, starring Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo, has created much excitement among Filipinos the world over. It opens today in across the archipelago.

Viva Films’ big boss Vic del Rosario said that the clamor for Hating Kapatid among Filipinos abroad cannot be ignored. His film outfit willingly agreed to hold simultaneous screenings in Austria; Switzerland; Barcelona, Spain; Ontario, Canada; Manhattan, New York; San Diego, California; Union City; San Francisco, California; Dubai; the Northern Emirates; Guam and Honolulu, Hawaii.

That is not to say that the Philippine-based fans of the duo will be missing their “idols.” The stars of the movie, with veterans Gina Pareno, Tonton Gutierrez, and Cherry Pie Picache, along the comedian of the hour Vice Ganda, and leading men JC de Vera and Luis Manzano will be joining Juday and Sarah in mall all over Metro Manila.

The entire cast will also be doing the rounds of the theaters today.

Wenn Deramas directed the movie from Mel Del Rosario’s screenplay. The two have been collaborating on projects that have been successful at the box-office partner like the Tanging Ina franchise.

Del Rosario said, “This is the first time that Juday and Sarah will be seen in one movie. That is a casting coup in itself. But even with that in mind, we thought of giving it more flavor by throwing in veterans and popular leading men. This is big.”

The movie tells the story of sisters Rica and Cecilia who love each other so much that they are willing to sacrifice even their personal happiness to keep intact the bond that they share.

SINGING sensation Sarah Geronimo has charmed her way to the hearts of Baguio locals.

Geronimo who was in town for her the Baguio leg of her concert entitled, "Sarah Geronimo: 'Record Breaker' Philippines 2010,” faced the local press with her simple charm, uncanny for celebrities.

Geronimo thanked the people of Baguio for the warn reception. “I was here years ago; I am so happy that the people here are still happy to see me.”

Geronimo just finished a US and Canada tour and is now embarking to bring her music nationwide. The Baguio leg of the tour was set at the University of Baguio gym with special guests Christian Bautista, Charlie Green, Jimmy Marquez and XLR8 with the G-Force dancers.

Louie Ocampo directed the musical special. The concert series will continue on July 30 at the Waterfront Hotel, Cebu and on Aug. 6 at the Atrium, Limketkai Center at Cagayan De Oro.

Geronimo said her plans to include staying in the music industry for as long as people will still accept her as she is. “What you see is what you get,” she said adding there are no added frills in her personality.

Geronimo said “I credit this to the upbringing of my parents, their guidance has taught me to be humble.”

The concert is for the benefit of the cancer support group, Mindas Buddies, it was established in the early 2000 by Minda Ulingan, who was inflicted with cancer. It has since been led by Noney Marzan, who was also a victim of breast cancer, who died in 2004.

Minda’s Buddies is now led by Marivic Bugasto, currently battling with the disease.
