MANILA, Philippines — Sharon Cuneta admits feeling slighted by her unforeseen involvement in the seething spat between her close friend Sarah Geronimo and Cristine Reyes.
In a recent press gathering held a few weeks after her headline-hogging “tampuhan” and eventual reconciliation with long-time friend Aga Muhlach, the veteran singer-actress said she felt “offended,” “disrespected” and “disappointed” to have been dragged into the Sarah-Cristine rift, which stemmed from Cristine’s fuming tweets against an “Idol” and “drama princess” whom many have guessed as Sarah.
Recall that Cristine got infuriated by Sarah’s quip during a rehearsal for “ASAP XV” that men who dance well are often chased by sexy women. Their fellow “ASAP” members Gab Valenciano and John Prats said in separate interviews with ABS-CBN that Sarah’s remark was meant to be a joke.
Another “ASAP” mainstay, actor-dancer Rayver Cruz, who’s being linked to the two actresses, admitted that it was he who told Cristine about the incident, as posted on abs-cbnNEWS.com.
Sarah is said to have found powerful allies in Sharon, as well as her “Hating Kapatid” co-star Judy Ann Santos, in the midst of the controversy.
Cristine, meanwhile, allegedly took a swipe at Sharon and even ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio.
“May mga nakakarating sa akin na, parang, ako nababastos.” Sharon admitted.
Cristine’s text messages to other people have also reached her, the 44-year-old actress added. “Nagulat ako do'n. Kasi ang objective ko, maayos [‘yung gulo],” she said.
Parang feeling ko, I have reached my place here, not only in the business, pero alam mo ‘yung track record ko sa pakikisama sa tao nang hindi ako natatrato nang gano'n. So, do'n, nao-offend ako.
“Ayoko ng mga naririnig ko, because ayoko ng when I don't deserve it, nababastos ako, na nawawalan ng respeto sa akin. It's disappointing… Nobody has the right to treat me like that if I have not hurt that person.”
The situation between Sarah and Cristine, Sharon deemed, got out of hand when it could’ve been settled peacefully.
"Pero sabi ko nga, sa mga sitwasyon na ganito, doon natin nakikita ang tunay na karakter ng mga taong involved. At ‘yun ang importante," she added.
Sharon denied the alleged claims of Cristine’s camp that Sarah told the former and Judy Ann about the whole brouhaha.
"Ang nagsasabi sa akin, mga taong malapit sa kanya (Sarah). Alam ng Panginoong Diyos, not once did Sarah call or text or tell me, o magparating ng kuwento. Not at all... Hindi ako sinungaling, sorry. Hindi ako 'yon," Sharon maintained.
The singer-actress also clarified reports that she nagged at Rayver during the taping of the Kapamilya network’s Christmas special at Araneta Coliseum last Dec. 14.
“Hindi ko nakita si Cristine, eh. Sayang nga, eh. Kasi I would have wanted na, ‘yung kung meron akong mako-contribute, magkaayusan.
“Ang ganda-ganda nang pagsabi ko [kay Rayver]. Ayoko nang pag-usapan ‘yung exact words, pero ang point lang ng buong conversation is, babae kasi si Sarah, ‘yung sana may proteksiyon… Hindi ko na nga lang sinabi... Ngayon, sasabihin ko na lang, wala namang masama: Kanino ba nagsimula lahat ng gulo? Di ba?
"So, sana maayos kasi tina-try kong intindihin ‘yung mga babae. Pero parang sumobra talaga. Na-offend talaga ako. Napakawalang respeto, pati sa akin, pati kay Juday, walang pakialam,” she related.
As Sarah’s friend, Sharon said she and Judy Ann, although supportive, are not the type to “condone mistakes.”
“Alam ng parents ni Sarah na kung merong mali si Sarah, hindi kami ‘yung we will condone it. Talagang mauuna kami ni Juday na pagsabihan siya (Sarah).
"Kung meron siyang pagkakamali, I don't think ganun kalaki ‘yung pagmamalisya niya because, truth be told, sana noon pa ang dami na niyang puwedeng nasabi. Kasi ang nakakaawa sa bata, nasaktan na, eh, di ba?” she said.
Her friendship with Sarah also made her realize, “totoo siyang tao.”
“‘Yung ipinapakita niya sa TV, ganun siya sa tunay na buhay. She's very... Si Sarah, hindi kumikibo!" Sharon exclaimed.
Meanwhile, another incident is said to have occurred during the taping of ABS-CBN’s Christmas special. Reports say that Cristine was “booed” by fans when she performed her production number.
