Following in the heels of a very successful radio-TV drama, Gulong ng Palad, ABS-CBN is set to unleash another time-tested melodrama with the Nerissa Cabral-classic Bituing Walang Ningning which airs next week, May 15! The 1985 blockbuster film Bituin will be re-written and transformed into a sineserye to suit this generation's younger TV audiences. Pop Idol Sarah Geronimo will reprise Sharon Cuneta's well loved character of Dorina Pineda, the humble fan who dreamt of becoming a singer just like her idol, Lavinia Arguelles which will be played by actress Angelika Dela Cruz.
"You're nothing but a second rate, trying hard, copycat!" will once again be heard as TV's newest kontrabida Angelika takes over the most villified character of Lavinia Pineda. She faces the challenge of surpassing Cherie Gil's unforgettable portrayal in the film version. Angelika may yet prove herself as she pits her singing prowess with champion Sarah Geronimo as both sing their own version of the karaoke staple, Bituing Walang Ningning. The sineserye’s soundtrack has already been launched on ASAP 06 last April 30. This album, featuring both remakes and original songs featured in the television series, is a co-production between Star Records and Viva Records.
Adding glamour and credibility to Bituin are more experienced actors like the Divine Diva Zsa Zsa Padilla as Rosa Mia Suarez, Dorina's birth mother as well as Comedy Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas who proves her dramatic chops as Adora Pineda, Dorina's adoptive mother. Multi-award winning actor Tonton Gutierez gives life to Emilio, Dorina's estranged father. They will be also joined by a stellar cast composed of Y-Speak host Ryan Agoncillo as Nico Escobar, the dynamic record executive who molds Dorina into a diva as well as PBB first runner up John Prats as Gary, a band leader who falls in love with Dorina. Award-winning young actor Carlo Aquino also joins this pool of talented young actors as Oman, Dorina's best friend. Watch as Ryan Agoncillo, John Pratts and Carlo Aquino melt your hearts as these handsome actors sweep Dorina off her feet.
Lending support as well as playing key roles are Dominic Ochoa as Larry Calma, owner of the label where Lavinia becomes a star; Mico Palanca as Zossimo, Nino's bestfriend and fellow record producer; Tuesday Vargas as Libby, Larry’s secretary; Little Big Star finalist Micah Torre as Bencho, Dorina’s adopted sister; and Janus del Prado, Jay Perillo, Chris Kayzer as Dorina’s band members. Carla Humphries also star as Laviña's sister.
The Bituin all-star cast has an equally impressive production team led by Over-All In Charge of Production Deo Endrinal, Production Manager Nini Matillac, and Executive Producers Emerald Suarez and Kylie Manalo. Rondel Lindayag is Bituing Walang Ningning’s Creative Manager, while Erick Salud and Jerome C. Pobocan serve as the production’s directors. Reggie Amigo is the series’ head writer, while Vince de Jesus, who composed the songs for ABS-CBN’s successful musical-fantasy Kampanerang Kuba and the hit play “Zsa-Zsa Zaturnnah”, contributes the original songs for the show.
